HYROX in Japan: 2027 race calendar (Osaka, Nagoya), transit, rules and recovery

The short answer

• Osaka: 21-25 January 2027, INTEX Osaka, tickets on sale. Use Cosmo Square station, not Nakafuto. Details in the Osaka guide.
• Nagoya: 16-18 April 2027, Port Messe Nagoya Exhibition Hall, 3 Chome-2-1 Kinjofuto, Minato Ward. The event page says ticket sales start soon; schedule, check-in times and location are TBC.
• Train to Nagoya: Aonami Line from Nagoya Station to the Kinjo-futo terminus, 24 minutes and 360 yen on the operator's fare table. No bus stop at the venue.
• Rules: timing chip on the ankle at all times, start time visible on your arm, ID at check-in and no checking in for someone else, 2-minute penalties for the wrong exit arch, unassigned lanes, moved chalk or pouring water on yourself.

Only races listed on hyrox.com and hyroxjapan.com are in this article. Anything the Nagoya page marks TBC is reported as TBC, not filled in from other events.

The official 26/27 calendar for Japan

hyrox.com's Find My Race page carries every event in the 26/27 season with dates and a ticket link. On 2026-09-12 the Japanese entries were BYD HYROX Osaka, 21-25 January 2027, with a Buy Tickets button, and HYROX Nagoya, 16-18 April 2027, with a Find out more button. The city filter on hyroxjapan.com's Find Your Race page offers exactly two Japanese cities, Nagoya and Osaka. No Tokyo, Chiba, Fukuoka or Sapporo entry exists on either site.

HYROX adds events during the season, and the New York entry on the same list reads "Date coming soon", which is how a placeholder looks when one exists. If you see another Japanese city on a ticket reseller, a gym's Instagram or an AI summary, treat it as unverified until it appears on hyrox.com with a Buy Tickets or Find out more button.

HYROX Osaka in brief

The Osaka page already carries the facts a traveller needs, and the HYROX Osaka race guide works through them: five race days with Singles, Doubles and Relay spread across them, an estimated last wave at around 8:00 PM, and a venue that tells you to use Cosmo Square on the Osaka Metro Chuo Line (about 9 minutes on foot) rather than Nakafuto, which INTEX expects to be extremely crowded. The fare from Umeda or Namba is 290 yen on an IC card, and the limousine bus from Kansai Airport stops at the hotel beside the halls for 1,800 yen. January normals for Osaka are a 9.7 C high and a 3.0 C low.

HYROX Nagoya: what the official page states

hyrox.com/event/hyrox-nagoya/ was live on 2026-09-12 with the heading "New season, new city, Nagoya" and the dates 16 to 18 April 2027. The divisions named on the page are Open and Pro singles, Doubles and Doubles Pro, and the four-person Relay. The page says ticket sales start soon. Everything else that decides a travel plan is listed as TBC:

• Race schedule: TBC, marked provisional and subject to change once published.
• Runs: TBC.
• Early athlete registration: date, times and location TBC.
• Race-day athlete registration: TBC.
• Ceremony times: TBC.

Venue: the page gives the event location as Port Messe Nagoya Exhibition Hall, 3 Chome-2-1 Kinjofuto, Minato Ward, Nagoya, Aichi 455-0848, and links to portmesse.com for access. It does not name a hall number; that street address is the one Port Messe lists for its Exhibition Hall 1 on its own access page.

The rules that are already fixed on the page, in the same wording HYROX uses for Osaka:

1. You must bring ID to check-in, for both early and race-day registration.
2. Checking in on behalf of others is not allowed.
3. Your race wristband gives you access to the venue only on the day of your race. To enter the hall before your official check-in window, go through the Spectators check-in with your athlete ticket QR code.
4. To enter the venue on any other day you need a spectator ticket. Spectator tickets cannot carry the Flex Lite or Flex Add-On.
5. Your individual start time is linked to your account approximately 3 days before the event. Start time changes are not permitted.

Getting to Port Messe Nagoya

Port Messe Nagoya (Nagoya International Exhibition Hall) sits on the Kinjo-futo pier in Minato-ku, on the port side of the city. Its access page names the Aonami Line's Kinjo-futo Station as the nearest station and states that there is no bus stop near the venue; shuttle buses depend on the event, so ask the organiser rather than the venue. The Aonami Line is a single line from Nagoya Station to Kinjo-futo, which is the last stop, so there is no wrong direction and no change.

Two notes on the train. Nagoya Station is a large complex where the Aonami Line platforms sit at the western edge; the operator publishes a transfer guide for Nagoya Station and Port Messe links to it, so allow time between the Shinkansen and the Aonami gates rather than assuming a cross-platform change. The Kinjo-futo ticket window has restricted hours (7:30-12:00, 16:00-18:30 and 20:00-22:30 since 1 August 2026), which matters if you plan to buy a paper ticket for the return; an IC card avoids the window entirely.

The Aonami Line fare page lists Kinjo-futo as 15.2 km from Nagoya. A one-day ticket exists, but for a single race-day return the two 360-yen fares are cheaper.

Cash, IC cards and Apple Wallet

The Aonami Line's IC card page lists its local card, manaca, plus the nationwide interoperable area, with one exception: PiTaPa post-pay is not accepted, so a PiTaPa must be charged in advance. In practice a Suica or PASMO from Tokyo, an ICOCA from Osaka or a TOICA from JR Central taps through the Kinjo-futo gates the same way. Apple's support page on transit cards in Japan says a Suica, PASMO, ICOCA or TOICA can be added to Apple Wallet on an iPhone 8 or later or an Apple Watch Series 3 or later, that a physical card and its balance can be transferred to the device, and that Express Mode turns on automatically for the first card so you tap the gate without unlocking. One restriction from the same page: Suica on a watch requires an Apple Watch that was purchased in Japan, so most visitors should keep the card on the phone.

Carry cash anyway. Coin lockers, small ramen counters near the station and some taxi drivers do not take cards, and manaca itself is sold for cash at station windows (2,000 yen including a 500 yen deposit). 10,000 yen in mixed notes and coins covers a race weekend of incidentals in either city.

Weather in January (Osaka) and April (Nagoya)

Figures are the Japan Meteorological Agency's 1991-2020 normals for the Osaka and Nagoya observation stations. The race month is shown with the month either side, since athletes often arrive early or stay on.

April in Nagoya is mild and moderately wet: a 20 C daytime high, a 10 C morning low and about 128 mm of rain across the month, so a light rain jacket for the walk from Kinjo-futo is the sensible packing choice. The pier is exposed to the port, and the queue before check-in is often outdoors. January in Osaka is dry and cold, with a 3 C low; the Osaka guide has the packing notes for that.

Rules from the 26/27 Singles Rulebook

hyroxjapan.com links the same global rulebook that hyrox.com publishes. The parts that decide whether your trip ends with a valid time:

1. The race is a 1 km run followed by one workout station, repeated 8 times, in the fixed order SkiErg, Sled Push, Sled Pull, Burpee Broad Jumps, Rowing, Farmers Carry, Sandbag Lunges, Wall Balls. Total running is 8,000 m; a segment may be split into several laps depending on the venue, and you count your own laps.
2. Waves start at regular intervals, for example every 10 minutes. Your official start time is communicated before race day and confirmed at check-in; it must be clearly visible on your arm. Starting in another wave without approval is a DQ.
3. The timing chip goes on an ankle and stays there for the whole race, or the result is DNS. Do not enter the Roxzone or run course before your wave, because the chip may trigger.
4. On the run course, racers running 4:00/km or faster use the inside Fast Lane; everyone else uses the outer Running Lane.
5. 2-minute penalties: leaving a station through the IN arch, using a lane or wall ball station not assigned by crew, moving chalk away from its station, or pouring aid-station fluids over your head or body.
6. Water is available at least once per pass through the Roxzone. Anything else you want to eat or drink must be carried from the start; taking a gel from a friend at the barrier is outside assistance.
7. Closed-toe shoes everywhere except at Wall Balls. Permitted extras: knee sleeves, gloves (not grips), a weightlifting belt, wristbands, hydration packs, inhalers and prescribed respiratory devices. Forbidden: headphones, cell phones, VR headsets, body cameras, helmets, ear plugs and glasses with cameras or data transmission.

SkiErg and Rowing are 1,000 m and Burpee Broad Jumps 80 m in every division.

Recovery: tattoo rules at Japanese baths

Nagoya and Osaka both have hundreds of sento and a fair number of onsen within an hour of the venue, and a large share of them refuse visible tattoos at the door. Signs are often only in Japanese, so athletes find out after undressing. The English hub of Tattoo OK Map lists baths in Japan that admit tattoos, each entry with the source URL and the date it was checked: tattoo-friendly onsen and sento in Japan. For Nagoya, look for entries near Nagoya Station or along the Aonami Line so the post-race trip is one train; for Osaka, filter to the Chuo Line or Midosuji Line.

Bath etiquette in one line: wash at the seated showers first, no towel in the water, no swimwear, and no photos. A 38-40 C soak for 10-15 minutes the evening after the race, then sleep, is the cheapest recovery protocol in the country.

Frequently asked questions

Which HYROX races are in Japan in the 2026/27 season?

Two, as of 2026-09-12. hyrox.com's Find My Race and hyroxjapan.com list BYD HYROX Osaka on 21-25 January 2027 at INTEX Osaka and HYROX Nagoya on 16-18 April 2027 at Port Messe Nagoya. No other Japanese city appears in either list. If a third city is announced it will appear on those pages with a Buy Tickets or Find out more button; treat any other listing as unverified.

How do I get from Nagoya Station to Port Messe Nagoya?

Take the Aonami Line from Nagoya Station to its terminus, Kinjo-futo. The operator's fare table gives 24 minutes, 15.2 km and 360 yen for an adult one-way ticket. Port Messe Nagoya's own access page names Kinjo-futo as the nearest station and states that there is no bus stop nearby. The event page's address, 3 Chome-2-1 Kinjofuto, is the one Port Messe lists for its Exhibition Hall 1, a short walk from the station.

Can I wear my Apple Watch or Garmin during a HYROX race?

The 26/27 Singles Rulebook lists seven permitted items (knee sleeves, gloves, weightlifting belt, wristbands, hydration packs, inhalers, respiratory devices) and a forbidden list that includes headphones, cell phones, body cameras and camera-equipped glasses. A wrist-worn sports watch appears on neither list, and the rulebook states that any item not explicitly listed as permitted is by default prohibited. Watches are commonly worn at HYROX events, but if you want certainty, ask the local customer support team named in the rulebook before race day.

The positions are modelled from public statistics, not raw results, and the app says so.
